In Colombia, although there are no official figures, there may be around 100 entities of this type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>Hace varios a\u00f1os, la familia de <strong>Andr\u00e9s Ibarra<\/strong> -due\u00f1a de la firma de consultor\u00eda en mecanismos de inversi\u00f3n y comercio internacional, Ara\u00fajo Ibarra- empez\u00f3 a analizar los temas de sucesi\u00f3n interna y cre\u00f3, adem\u00e1s, una \u2018family office\u2019 insertada en la compa\u00f1\u00eda principal, que poco tiempo despu\u00e9s se constituy\u00f3 en una entidad independiente.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>\"We became a 'virtual family office' with three employees in a separate entity, and now we have service level agreements with the legal company where we were previously embedded,\" explains this lawyer from the Universidad de los Andes, specialized in strategic planning for family businesses.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>In fact, since late last year, Ibarra has been the co-director of the Colombia, Central America, and the Caribbean (Caricol) chapter of the&nbsp;<strong>Family Office Exchange (FOX)<\/strong>a global association with a presence in 25 countries that has 400 members and, in the last 30 years, has worked with over 2,000 families and advisors worldwide.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>Consideradas como&nbsp;una fuerza silenciosa y discreta durante d\u00e9cadas, las \u2018oficinas de familia\u2019 o \u2018family offices\u2019 surgieron en el mundo para satisfacer las necesidades de las familias adineradas, abarcando&nbsp;la gesti\u00f3n financiera, la planificaci\u00f3n fiscal, la filantrop\u00eda y la preservaci\u00f3n del patrimonio.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>According to The Economist Intelligence Unit, family offices are experiencing an increase in popularity, driven by a combination of factors, including a greater concentration of wealth, generational changes, and the search for more personalized and direct investment strategies.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/impact.economist.com\/perspectives\/sites\/default\/files\/eiu_dbs_the_family_office_boom_0114.pdf\">\u2000<\/a>&nbsp;de&nbsp;The Economist, las \u2018family offices\u2019 est\u00e1n experimentando un aumento en su popularidad, impulsadas por una combinaci\u00f3n de factores que incluyen&nbsp;una mayor concentraci\u00f3n de la riqueza, cambios generacionales y la b\u00fasqueda de estrategias de inversi\u00f3n m\u00e1s personalizadas y directas.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>\u2000<a href=\"https:\/\/forbes.co\/2023\/11\/24\/negocios\/esta-family-office-de-colombianos-permitira-invertir-en-sus-proyectos-inmobiliarios\">&nbsp;\u2000<\/a><\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>In the United States, according to a study cited by Forbes, family offices managed assets of $1.72 trillion last year, reflecting a substantial increase of 14% compared to 2022.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.campdenfb.com\/article\/north-america-family-office-report-2023-families-fare-well-in-tumultuous-times\">\u2000<\/a>&nbsp;citado por&nbsp;Forbes, las \u2018family offices\u2019 gestionaron activos por 1,72 billones de d\u00f3lares el a\u00f1o pasado, lo que refleja un aumento sustancial del 14% con respecto al 2022.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>En Colombia, aunque no existen cifras oficiales, <strong>Ra\u00fal Serebrenik<\/strong>, un experto en temas de empresas familiares y quien es el otro codirector del cap\u00edtulo Caricol de FOX junto con Ibarra, estima que puede haber unas\u00a0100 entidades de este tipo.\u00a0<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>\u201cEn t\u00e9rminos generales, veo una evoluci\u00f3n de las familias empresarias que cada vez m\u00e1s se forman en estos temas y han visto la necesidad de formalizarse, institucionalizarse, profesionalizarse y corporatizarse\u201d, explica<strong> Serebrenik,<\/strong> quien de hecho asesor\u00f3 a la familia de Ibarra en la generaci\u00f3n de protocolos y de all\u00ed surgi\u00f3 la creaci\u00f3n de una \u2018family office\u2019.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>In the country, according to Ibarra, most of these entities start with an external Chief Investment Officer who provides investment advisory services.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>\"One can outsource or can also go - as I have seen several families do who have liquidity events - to a multi-family office where they already handle and deliver the reports and detach from the issue, or they can have it in-house. It depends on the wealth volume, needs, and the state of the family office,\" he adds.&nbsp;<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>According to both experts, the vast majority of family offices in Latin America began to take shape in the last 10 years. Behind this boom are events such as political fluctuations and financial crises that have sparked significant interest among families in empowering themselves and managing their resources directly, aligning them with their continuity strategy.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>\u201cHay tres palabras claves:&nbsp;recursos, conexiones y conocimientos\u201d, explica Ibarra y explica que al vincularse a una asociaci\u00f3n como FOX las familias empresarias estrechan v\u00ednculos con otras familias que est\u00e1n dispuestas a compartir sus experiencias que, en muchos casos, abarcan per\u00edodos de 20, 30 y hasta 40 a\u00f1os, no solo en el cap\u00edtulo regional sino tambi\u00e9n en el de Estados Unidos.<\/p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>\"This exchange, through virtual meetings and in-person events, benefits not only the family but also the businesses and the heritage, strengthening the ability to face and overcome the challenges of the current environment,\" they conclude.<\/p><br><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Consideradas como una fuerza discreta durante d\u00e9cadas, las oficinas de familia cada vez son m\u00e1s populares en el mundo.
